N. Jed Todd
War is for Weirdos...
Back in early 90s Texas, Jed was informed that in order to keep his Texas driver's license, he had to learn to either enjoy football, ride horses, or join the military. Well, he was afraid of horses, and war seemed a better option than football, and less likely to produce casualties. So he joined the Army, learned Russian and saw the world, then lied about it. Professionally. Propaganda (excuse me, Psychological Operations, because nothing produces trust so much as hiding what you do with easily penetrated euphemisms) was an entrance into SOF, albeit the part that 'puts the T in SOF'. He served in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Iraq far too many times, Mali, Uganda/South Sudan/Central African Republic/DR Congo, Kuwait, and even got to see Korea and Germany. Since retiring as a Master Sergeant, he has worked for the USAF Futures office and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
In addition to brainwashing on the macro level, Jed has gone on to study brainwashing at the micro level. He is now finishing a doctoral program at George Mason University in Cognitive Behavioral Psychology, looking at non-invasive neurostimulation techniques and engagement with AI. Before that he studied Unconventional Warfare at American Military University, Biblical Studies at Michael Heiser's AWKNG School of Theology, Russian and Arabic at Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, Uzbek as a Boren Fellow, Psychology at the University of North Texas, and far too little at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. So he's got a lot of different ways to pretend he didn't know what you meant, because weaponized incompetence requires training. He has also begun writing poetry, publishing widely in Middle West Press publications, occasionally in other vet journals/collections, and once in the Journal of the American Medical Association. And when your cutting words get published by surgeons, well... Then they probably didn't consult enough English professors, really, but it sounds nice. He also did rock-climbing and parachuting and marathons, but never got it to show up in his physique.
As a (now, at least) amateur liar and professional colonialist, Jed managed to fool his wife, Ami, for which he blames her having spent too much time studying dead languages. No one was talking about him in Latin, thank God, clean bill of health there. Burned, she has since turned to technical analysis in insurance brokerage and social work advocacy, vowing to keep others from making the same mistake she did. Their daughter, Meera, ignores both of them as easily replaceable by looped SoundCloud nursery rhymes. Their dogs, Veda and Reba, are the successor to Devy Rex, King of Indignation, Erin and Sarah and Petey, and Scrappy who started it all.
Jed can be reached at jed@j3epress.com. Or you can just wait until the Men in Black hear you thinking too much about him, in which case the Orbital Mind Control Lasers will invasively neurostimulate until you stop. Which really plays hell with getting a fan base, got to convince them to cool it a bit... LinkedIn is poisonous, he has neither Facebook nor TikTok nor Instagram, and anything else (GMU, Together We Served, Athlinks) is likely itself a completely monitored exercise in MK ULTRA surveillance and gang-stalking. You Have Been [Fnord]Warned.
