Our Story
J3E Press LLC was born from the fires of Denton, Texas ("Home of Happy Horrors"). The four members of the writing collective went to school at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, and learned there that they weren't nearly as professional as they should be. They were good at Science & Math when no one around them was, but away from home, their real gift was Dreaming. And the Dreamlands, in an all-too Lovecraftian sense.
So they parted ways, and grew if not up at least out. But the Dreamlands remained, and the trauma the Dreamlands left in its wake. Twenty years on, the Horde found each other again through table-top gaming, and decided to not Leave Well Enough Alone and draw out the Darkness Within. So they wrote, and eventually decided that they ought to do more than just write it, because they couldn't really tell what was crap and what was not.
Jeff Oberg became a chef, a theater manager, stage-craft advisor, and a father. One of those led in time to an empty nest and time once again to Dream. Author of The Cutter's Hound.
Anthon Draw, under his non-pen-name of Ed O'Casey, became a poet and a teacher, and a father. But he came at last back to Texas, and teaching in Texas is a risky business. Better to supplement with the sure thing of writing fiction. Okay, teaching in Texas sucks, admitted, but... Author of Tortuga.
Jed Todd became a soldier and propagandist, and did well enough at it, because lies are always easier to sell than the truth. But slowly the Dreamland sank back into our policy, and Lovecraftian Horrors emerged at last from the Pentagon. Seemed a good time to start learning to excorcise them. Author of The War That Wasn't.
Jon Black wandered the world, writing of travel and music and occassionally what people paid him for. He wrote widely and often, and even came to be known for it. But the hardships of a writer's life are best endured in company, like any misery, and so he found a Collective to woo into the Devil's Dreamland Devices. And here we are. Author of Bel Nemeton.
